Abstract

The increasing global demand for clean water and the escalating levels of pollution have made water purification an urgent and critical area of research. Among the various techniques for water treatment, the use of nanocatalysts has gained significant attention due to their high efficiency and environmental benefits. This paper discusses the application of nanocatalysts in water treatment, focusing on their mechanisms and effectiveness in removing various pollutants such as organic contaminants, heavy metals, and pharmaceutical residues. The paper explores the ability of different types of nanocatalysts to degrade or remove pollutants, including TiO₂-based photocatalysts, iron oxide nanoparticles, and carbon-based nanomaterials. In addition, this paper discusses current challenges and future recommendations for enhancing the practical application of nanocatalysts in water purification systems. Despite promising results, challenges remain in scaling up these technologies, reducing costs and ensuring environmental safety. Future research should focus on overcoming these challenges by developing more efficient and environmentally friendly synthesis methods, improving the stability and recyclability of nanocatalysts, and exploring ways to integrate nanocatalytic processes into existing water treatment systems. Efforts to attach nanocatalysts to carriers or membranes may help in their reuse and recycling, addressing safety and cost concerns.
